The Jungle Book

This is what I needed this morning to lighten my mood, an old movie trailer for Disney's version of Kipling...something that Kipling would never have imagined in his wildest dreams.

Smile along with me and Mr. Kipling as we consider the path from this 1894 first edition copy of The Jungle Book to Disney's fantastical 1967 version of some of its stories.

  1. This brings back memories! My son watched this SO MANY times when he was little. He absolutely loved this (and so did I).

  2. It may not be what Kipling imagined, but I love it!

I just can't stop singing - "Look for the bear necessities, the simple bear necessities. Forget about your worries and your strife. OH YEAH!"

  3. I tried to read Kipling's Jungle Book when I was a kid and didn't get far because it scared the pants off me. Nothing like the Disney version.

  4. I love both. My kids loved both. The songs for the Disney version are delightful and so much fun. I've been watching the anniversary commercials on television and have so many of the songs stuck in my head!

  5. 3M, I hear you. My daughters wore out two VHS tapes of that movie, including the French-language version that was used to study French.

  6. Annie and Jenclair...that's why I wish I hadn't watched this trailer three times yesterday. But at least they're some pretty cool songs. :-)

  7. I've only read bits and pieces from the book, Stephanie, but I remember that they were a bit much for me at the age at which I was trying to read them.
